How bad is the contamination?
The contamination area is explained in detail using the photo below
In the above photo, you will note at the top of the photo, in the upper end of the
building, a red box with a red line, extending from the bottom of the box.
This area was known as Department 1212, or the " Bake Shop ". It was in this area
that operated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, that just some of the toxic waste stems from.
In this area, generator parts after being wound and inspected, were dipped in red and
white epoxy polymers and baked and cured for hours. Upon cooling down, the generator
parts were then cleaned, and the excess epoxy was removed with several solvents.
The solvents that remained were dumped in the soil in the areas indicated by the
red line below the red box after shifts end, or end of the project.
Upon completion in the bake shop, the parts were then, sent to the " degreasing area ",
which is the red box located directly below center in the photo. The parts were
greased in certain areas, such as the connection lead area, to insure that the connection
wires, were loose and could be connected later. The degreasing area contained many toxic
solvents, and was major contributor to plant contamination.Adjacent to the degreasing area,
was the plant " paint shop " that housed more toxic contamination.
